Use this checklist to work from a patient’s next action back to the search result. Fix contact and booking problems first, then improve the pages and public information that help the right people find you.
Record each finding as observed, confirmed, submitted or verified live. This keeps a correction request from being mistaken for completed work.
Your first pass: Google → website → booking
Choose one real treatment and follow its journey on a phone. Confirm the location, hours, available service and next appointment step. Do not reserve an appointment solely to test the calendar.

- Check the existing Google profile’s ownership and account notices.
- Use the real business name and an accurate category.
- Match the preferred phone and official address across the website, Google and booking provider.
- Add practical arrival instructions for shared premises.
- Confirm opening dates, staffed hours and appointment availability.
For setup detail, follow the Google Business Profile guide. A future opening date and a suspension are different states.
2. Remove uncertainty from the appointment path
- Make the relevant treatment and location easy to identify.
- Label a consultation clearly if it is the correct first appointment.
- Explain active versus forthcoming services consistently.
- Keep the phone and booking action usable on a small screen.
- Test success and error messages on inquiry forms without sending patient data.
Track a booking click separately from a completed appointment. A button opening the calendar is not proof that a client finished booking.
3. Improve existing local treatment pages
Choose the pages Google already shows for relevant searches. Give each a clear treatment and location, accurate practitioner information, a useful explanation of the appointment and a direct next step.
Create a new page only when it answers a distinct need. Repeating the same page with different city names is not a useful local strategy. Keep location pages grounded in the clinic’s real locations and the services available there.
- Write a distinct title and helpful search description.
- Use headings that match the reader’s questions.
- Link from the relevant guide or service navigation.
- Check that the page can be crawled and indexed.
- Keep structured data consistent with the visible business information.
4. Correct the directories that matter
Begin with sources where prospective clients can find or contact you: a landlord’s tenant listing, professional association profile, local directory or booking platform. Confirm each listing is suitable for your business before creating it.
An old phone number or wrong location deserves attention. Cosmetic formatting differences alone do not prove a ranking problem. Save the submitted correction and recheck its public status later.
5. Request and respond to genuine feedback
Ask after a real experience, make the review link convenient and use the same neutral invitation regardless of satisfaction. Do not offer rewards, buy reviews or request removal in exchange for compensation. See Google’s review guidance.
A response should acknowledge feedback without revealing treatment details. Move a service concern to a private channel. Establish who handles complaints and who can approve a response. Our reputation-management service supports that workflow.
6. Verify mobile usability and technical basics
- Inspect the actual page on desktop and mobile; look for clipped text and intrusive overlays.
- Check internal links and the destination after redirects.
- Use descriptive image text where it helps explain the image; decorative images can have empty alt text.
- Review loading performance with current browser tools and PageSpeed Insights.
- Check canonical URLs, sitemap entries and indexing status in Search Console.
A missing meta description is an improvement opportunity, not a diagnosis for every indexing issue. The age of a website alone does not justify a redesign.
7. Earn useful local attention
Share genuinely useful education with local organizations, relevant publications and professional partners. A collaboration should benefit their audience independently of a link. Keep paid sponsorship distinct from earned editorial coverage.
Use tagged links on controlled external campaigns to identify referrals. Keep internal navigation free of campaign tags that can confuse attribution. Compare delivered inquiries and bookings alongside visits.
Keep a simple review record
| Record | Example |
|---|---|
| Evidence | Two public pages show different contact hours. |
| Owner confirmation | Staffed hours and appointment availability confirmed separately. |
| Action | Correct each source or submit a directory request. |
| Completion check | Reopen the public URLs and save the date checked. |
| Outcome | Monitor relevant inquiries and booking completion where measurable. |
Review material changes promptly and compare performance over consistent periods. There is no universal review count, page quota or timetable that guarantees dominant local rankings. Google’s local-ranking guidance explains the role of relevance, distance and prominence.
Local SEO questions
Do I need a page for every nearby city?
No. Start with useful pages for real locations and services. Add a page only when it offers distinct, accurate information for its audience.
How many reviews should I aim for?
There is no universal target that guarantees rankings. Build a consistent process for genuine feedback and compare your local context without pressuring clients for a rating.
What should I measure first?
Check that inquiries are delivered, then distinguish search visits, contact actions, completed bookings and attended appointments. Use a consistent period and record unavailable data as unavailable.
